A Guide to Natural Lifting and Rejuvenation
What is buccal (intraoral) facial massage?
Buccal—or intraoral—facial massage is an innovative, entirely natural, and regenerative technique that serves as an alternative or a complement to invasive aesthetic procedures (such as Botox, fillers, or a surgical facelift). Originating in Paris and developed by the renowned therapist Yakov Gershkovich, this method has become an absolute hit in the beauty world in recent years, championed even by global celebrities.
The special feature of this technique lies in a combination of external and internal massage. The treatment is performed using sterile gloves, with the muscles of the face, cheeks, and jaw being addressed through targeted, firm movements—applied both externally and from within the oral cavity (via the buccal mucosa). This approach allows for a deep-tissue effect on the fascia (connective tissue) and muscles that cannot be reached through conventional, classic massage.
How is the treatment performed?
The treatment usually consists of two parts:
- Sculptural / external lifting: It includes a massage of the superficial facial muscles, the neck, and the décolleté to release tension and stimulate circulation.
- Buccal / intraoral massage: Massaging the muscles from the inside, through the oral cavity, following the direction of the muscle fibers and a specific sequence.
Depending on the salon or clinic, the buccal massage itself lasts between 20 and 60 minutes (though it can also be combined with other cosmetic treatments, such as peels, serums, or masks, which may extend the total duration).
Key effects and benefits
- Natural lifting effect: It visibly tightens the contours of the face, defines the chin line, raises the cheekbones and reduces the chin and sagging skin.
- Deep muscle stimulation: It releases muscles from tension, spasms, and adhesions that accelerate the aging process.
- Wrinkle reduction: Reduces deep wrinkles (such as nasolabial folds, forehead wrinkles or "crow's feet").
- Relaxation and osteopathic benefits: It is extremely helpful for people suffering from bruxism (teeth grinding), jaw clenching caused by stress, as well as frequent headaches and sinus infections.
- Improved circulation and lymphatic drainage: It promotes the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the tissue, restores collagen and elastin, reduces puffiness (under-eye circles and bags under the eyes), and regulates sebum secretion.
Although performed from the inside, the treatment is painless, pleasant, and deeply relaxing, leaving a sense of relief and reduced stress.
Who is the treatment intended for?
Buccal massage is recommended for adults who wish to:
- Restore tone, elasticity, and freshness to a tired face.
- Reduce the visibility of wrinkles and enlarged pores.
- Shape the cheekbones and jawline without needles.
- Alleviate the effects of stress and tension in the jaw.
Main contraindications (When should the treatment be avoided?)
Massage is not recommended or is postponed in the following cases:
- Pregnancy (depending on the specific recommendations of individual salons)
- Active herpes, acne, eczema, rosacea, or infectious skin diseases
- Scratches, open wounds, or allergic rashes on the face / in the oral cavity
- Recent aggressive chemical peels or deep facial cleansing
- Recent dermal fillers or recent surgical/dental procedures
- Elevated body temperature, large moles, and papillomas in the treated area
Recommended frequency
- First results: They are visible immediately after the first treatment – the skin appears fresher and firmer, and the face looks more relaxed.
- Course (series of treatments): To achieve a real, long-lasting effect, it is recommended to do a series of 5 to 10 treatments (depending on the condition of the skin and muscles), with an interval of 7 to 10 days between treatments.
- Maintenance: After completing the initial series, it is recommended to come in once a month to maintain the results achieved.
